but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honour and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory   2 Peter 1:16-17)

we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matt 16:16)

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. (Luke 9:28-29)

1. The Mountain

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. (verse 28)

And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. (Matt 17:1)

2. The Motivation

Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. (verse 28)

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. (verse 29)

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21-22)

Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep (v. 32)

And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” (Luke 22:45-46

3. The Moment

And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. (verse 29)

the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him. (Ex 34:35)

and his face shone like the sun (Matt 17:2)

and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. (Mark 9:3)

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.  (2 Peter 1:16)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:9)
