5) He was crushed

Isaiah 53:10

Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.  (Isaiah 53:10)

1. He will of the LORD to crush Him

Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.  (Matthew 2:16)

And they rose up and drove him out of the town and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their town was built, so that they could throw him down the cliff. But passing through their midst, he went away.  (Lk 4:29-30)

From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. (Matt 16:21)

Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; (Isaiah 53:10)

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” (Gen 3:15)

this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. (Acts 2:23)

2. It was the will of the LORD to make Him an offering

he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; (Isaiah 53:10)

and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.   (Hebrews 9:22)

When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.  (John 19:30)

3. It was the will of the Lord that should prosper

the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.  (Isaiah 53:10)

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  (1 Tim 2:3-4)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God (Eph 2:8)
