The God of Jacob

Psalm 46:1-11

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah (Psalm 46:2-3)

He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.  (v. 9)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (verse 1)

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (verse 7)

Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth. (verse 8)

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah (verse 11)

The God of Jacob is our fortress (verse 7)

He fathered God’s people

He will receive blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah (Psalm 24:4-5)

The God of Jacob is our fortress (Psalm 46:7)

He felt God’s protection

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”   (Genesis 28:15)

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! (Psalm 20:1)

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1)

He found God’s blessing

And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”  (Genesis 32:24-26)

O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah (Psalm 84:8)

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. (Psalm 46:4-5)
