1) Following on

2 Kings 2:1-18

“I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” 1 Kings 19:10

Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah 1 Kings 19:19-20

Farewell to Elijah

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-89

Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?” “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.” 2 Kings 2:3

“Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”  2 Kings 2:9

“You have asked a hard thing.” 2 Kings 2:10

And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” 2 Kings 2:11-12

Following on from Elijah

Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 2 Kings 2:12

Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. 2 Kings 2:14

Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 2 Kings 2:15

“Did I not say to you, ‘Do not go’?” 2 Kings 2:18
