Matthew 1:18-25
She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10
The Sinner
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” Matthew 9:9
And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. Matthew 9:10
And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Matthew 9:11
The Saviour
“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Matthew 9:12
There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them. John 19:18
Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:13
Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. 1 Samuel 15:3
“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. 1 Samuel 15:22
For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. Hosea 6:6
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone reaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? Romans 10:14-15
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15
