7) Joy (i)

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matt 2:1-2)

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. (Micah 5:2)

After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.  (Matt 2:9)

1. JOY because going in right direction

And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was.  (Matt 2:9)

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.  (Ps 51:12)

Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory (1 Pe 1:8)

For the joy of the Lord is your strength (Neh 8:10)

2. JOY because going to meet Him

“Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” (Matt 2:2)

And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.  (Matt 2:11)

“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” (Acts 2:38-39)

Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.  (Hebrews 9:28)
