3) Light

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. (Isaiah 9:2)

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.  (Isaiah 60:1)

1. A deep darkness

The people who walked in darkness … those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness (Isaiah 9:2)

… people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. (Jn 3:19-20)

Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.” (Jer 10:5)

2. A great light

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.  (John 1:9)

because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” (Lk 1:78-79)

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (Jn 8:12)

The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.  (John 1:9)

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ..” (John 14:6)

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.  (Rev 22:5)
